The long awaited re-release and premiere is finally happening!
Originally completed in 2019, "Clay, Creativity & the Comeback" is the feature-length documentary directed by Luke Fandrich (of Editing Luke) that tells the story of the volunteers who stepped up to save the crumbling ruins and abandoned factories of Medicine Hat's former clay industry when they saw the potential for something greater back in the 1970s.
Countless individuals over multiple decades laid the groundwork for what would eventually become the renewed Medalta Potteries we know today - including the birth of a museum, international artist's hub, community space and the expansive clay district that is now a designated National Historic Site of Canada.
"Clay, Creativity & the Comeback" is a story you won't find in the Medalta museum told by the dedicated trailblazers who made it all possible. Featuring original interviews, newly found archival materials, and a glimpse at a transformation that most locals have never seen before - this story will give you a fresh perspective on what Medicine Hat almost lost all those years ago.
Our original release was cut short by the pandemic in 2020, so for the first time ever we're bringing "Clay, Creativity & the Comeback" to the Monarch Theatre to mark the 40th anniversary of the Friends of Medalta Society and to celebrate the legacy of all of those who made this incredible story a reality.
